Ministry of Finance borrows RON 1.2 billion from banks on Thursday

The Ministry of Finance (MF) borrowed RON 1.2 billion (approximately EUR 243.6 million) from banks on Thursday through two government bond issues, according to data published by the National Bank of Romania (BNR).

The ministry raised RON 600 million (around EUR 121.7 million) through a government bond issue maturing on 27 July 2031, at an average yield of 6.88% per annum. The nominal value of the issue was RON 600 million, while banks subscribed for more than RON 1.163 billion. A supplementary auction is scheduled for Friday, in which the state aims to raise an additional RON 90 million at the yield set on Thursday.

In addition, the ministry raised another RON 600 million (about EUR 121.7 million) through a government bond issue maturing on 28 April 2027, at an average yield of 6.39% per annum. The nominal value of this issue was RON 600 million, while banks subscribed for RON 1.218 billion. A supplementary auction on Friday aims to raise an additional RON 90 million at the same yield.

The Ministry of Finance plans to borrow a total of RON 4.5 billion (around EUR 913.4 million) from commercial banks in December 2025, with the possibility of an additional 15%, or RON 675 million (approx. EUR 136.9 million), from the nominal value allocated in reference auctions during supplementary non-competitive offer sessions
