The government approved, on Friday, via emergency ordinance, the reorganisation of the Romanian Customs Authority, disposing, among other things, the establishment of the National Center for Customs Imaging Analysis, which will analyze the scanned images.
According to a press release from the Executive, the said piece of legislation provides for some measures to strengthen the institutional capacity of the Romanian Customs Authority, reorganise its activity, as well as for the modification and completion of some pieces of legislation.
This emergency ordinance establishes the Multiannual Programme for the Modernisation and Development of the Customs Infrastructure for the period 2025 - 2030, with a maximum budget of one billion RON, in order to modernize and develop the specific infrastructure under the administration of the Customs Authority, for the consolidation of the institutional capacity in combating customs fraud, tax evasion, smuggling, drug and/or narcotic drug trafficking, the source says.
Also, the piece of legislation provides for the establishment of the National Center for Customs Imaging Analysis, which will analyze the scanned images, "and the customs systems will be interoperable with the IT systems specific to the National Road Infrastructure Administration Company and the Romanian Border Police, regarding persons, means of transport and goods", the Government also says.
