Net assets of investment funds up by 3 pct in May

The net assets of the 248 open-ended and closed-ended funds, both local and foreign, increased by 3% in May, to RON 50.5 billion (EUR 10 billion), while net outflows for the month totalled RON 138 million (- EUR 27.2 million), according to data provided by the Fund Managers Association (AAF).

The five best-performing local open-ended investment funds over the last 12 months recorded net annual returns of between 10.8% and 19.5%; over a 36-month horizon, the five best-performing funds had returns of between 62.8% and 69.5%, achieved over the last three years (compared to May 2022).

The net assets of the 96 local open-ended funds increased by 2.2% in May to RON 28.5 billion (EUR 5.63 billion), and in 2025 they increased by 7.3%.

Local open-ended funds recorded net outflows of RON 142.8 million lei (EUR 28.2 million) in May, with equity funds (- RON 100.3 million), diversified funds (- RON 62.5 million), funds grouped under the category 'other funds' (- RON 31.8 million) and absolute return funds (-RON 1.3 million), while bond and fixed income funds (+RON 53.1 million) recorded net inflows.

The net assets expressed in RON of the 116 foreign open-ended funds distributed in Romania increased in May by 7.5% to RON 2.23 billion (EUR 0.44 billion), and in 2025 they increased by 0.5%.

Foreign open-ended funds distributed in Romania, accounting for 7.3% of total open-ended investment fund assets, recorded net inflows of RON 14.5 million (EUR 2.86 million) in May.

The net assets of the 36 alternative investment funds increased by 3.7% in May, to RON 19.8 billion (EUR 3.9 billion), and in 2025 they increased by 1.2%; local alternative investment funds had net outflows of RON 9.6 million (- EUR 1.9 million) in the reported month.
