Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu declared, after a meeting with the miners' representatives in Suceava on Friday, that no pension will be reduced following the recalculation carried out under the new pension law, including the rights due to pensioners who worked in arduous working conditions.
"We have always respected people who work, even more those who work in arduous conditions! That's why we also fought to keep the mines open when the very people who are now pretending to care for the miners were closing them down without remorse through the PNRR. No pension will decrease as a result of recalculation - that was the essential condition for passing this law. Thus, we have been able to protect all pensioners who, through no fault of their own, have over time received higher pensions than those with the same contributory base and the same working conditions. And, contrary to the lies of those who drafted the PNRR, only 4.4% of all pensions are in this situation. These pensions will also remain at the same level, because we have managed to convince the representatives of the European Commission that it is not fair or constitutional to take away the rights due to pensioners who have worked in hard labor conditions," said Marcel Ciolacu, in a post on his Facebook page.
He emphasized that the current law (360/2023) "has maintained the benefits granted to those who worked in special conditions (degree I) or particular working conditions (degree. II) have been maintained, both in terms of recognizing shorter full contribution periods and in terms of granting an additional pension point".
"All these things we discussed today in Suceava with the miners' representatives. And we will further discuss with the Commission representatives to find transitional solutions regarding the years of seniority required for retirement, so that no one is not unfairly treated," Ciolacu said.
