Number of Romania's new housing units up 6.5 pct over Jan - Sept 2017

The number of new housing units built in Romania in the first nine months of 2017 was over 39,000, by 6.5 percent higher than in the same period of 2016, the National Institute of Statistics (INS) said on Friday in a release. As many as 39,372 housing units were completed between January - September 2017, by 2,415 more than in the same period of the previous year. The housing units handed over in urban areas accounted for 57.8 percent of the total. By financing sources for completed residences, the number of units built between January - September 2017 with private funds was by 1,683 higher compared to the same period of 2016, while the number of homes completed with public funds was also by 732 higher, INS said.

The breakdown by development regions shows a rise in the numbers of completed residences in the first nine months of the year as follows: Center (+1,195), North-West (+855 homes), South-East (+622), West (+301), and South-West Oltenia (+87). On the other hand, decreases were recorded during the same period in the development regions North-East (-552 homes), Bucharest-Ilfov (-71) and South-Muntenia (- 62).

INS data shows that 16,315 homes were handed over in the third quarter of this year, by 3,464 more compared to the same period of the 2016; housing units built in urban areas accounted for 58.1 percent of the total. By financing sources for the residences completed in Q3 2017, by 3,302 more housing units were completed with private funds as to Q3 2016, while the number of homes completed with public funds was by 162 higher.
