Secretary-General of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Mathias Cormann is paying an official visit to Bucharest on Friday.

The Secretary-General of the OECD will be welcomed in the morning by Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca at Victoria Palace of Government, where they will have an official meeting. The launch event of the Economic Survey of Romania is scheduled for 10:30 am, during which the two officials will speak.

Mathias Cormann will be received by President Klaus Iohannis at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace, from 13:00.

On Tuesday, President Klaus Iohannis welcomed the decision of the OECD Council to launch accession negotiations with Romania.

"I warmly welcome today's OECD decision to open accession negotiations with Romania. I thank Secretary-General Mathias Cormann and the Member States for supporting Romania's candidacy! We remain committed to achieving the goal of joining the OECD with energy and determination," the head of state wrote on Facebook.

The Government also welcomed the decision of the OECD Council to launch accession negotiations with Romania, stressing in a press release that, through this decision, our country is significantly closer to achieving one of its strategic foreign policy objectives, unanimously shared and constantly committed to the highest level of the state, namely, obtaining membership in the Organization.
