Oradea Muncipality selected to be part of M100, the EU platform for climate neutrality

The city of Oradea has been selected to be part of M100, the EU platform for climate neutrality, alongside 12 other cities in Romania that openly undertake the process of transition to a green economy, assumed at the European level, the Oradea City Hall informs in a press release, inform agerpres.ro.

These cities will benefit from non-reimbursable funds at an unprecedented level, to achieve the targets assumed by the European Union. The cities selected to be part of Mission 100 were announced on Tuesday, in the Capital City Bucharest.

The mayor of Oradea, Florin Birta, who attended the event in Bucharest, emphasised how the municipality he leads managed to implement an important portfolio of projects that had in mind the sustainable development of the city.

"The ambition of the city of Oradea is to become a model of urban sustainability. We will invest in ecological transport, energy efficiency with an emphasis on the management of the geothermal resource at our disposal, intelligent urban planning and extensive green spaces, intelligent waste management, as well as digitization, contributing thus activey in achieving climate neutrality," Florin Birta said.

At the national level, the M100 platform includes Cluj-Napoca, district 2 of Bucharest City, Suceava, Alba Iulia, Bistrita, Bucharest, Buzau, Timisoara, Constanta, Iasi, Brasov and Resita.

This is a project supported both at the European level and by the Government of Romania, for the coordination of the efforts of cities in Romania, in order to reach the targets of climate neutrality.

By 2035, greenhouse gas emissions will have to be reduced in order to build sustainable communities.

At the European level, 100 cities are engaged in this mission, which extends beyond the limits of the cities directly involved, so that it can generate a green wave, of transition to sustainability, throughout the continent.

Benefiting from the coordinated support of six ministries in this mission towards the green economy, the Romanian cities selected in the M100 national hub will have at their disposal around one billion euros for the implementation of the projects necessary to reach the climate neutrality targets. The funds will be secured through various non-reimbursable financing mechanisms - both EU funds and EEA grants (Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein).
