Over 20 tonnes of plastic and rubber waste coming from the Czech Republic were halted at Romania's western border by Nadlac II border guards, environmental officers and |Arad consumer protection officers according to a press statement released on Wednesday by the Oradea Local Territorial Border Police Inspectorate (ITPF).

The driver failed to produce the necessary documents for importation, and the control authorities did not allow the vehicle and transported cargo to enter Romania.

"According to the cargo manifests, the driver was shipping plastics and rubber materials from a Czech company to a company in Romania. As there were suspicions about the legality of the shipment in question, the border guards requested authorised support from the Arad County Commissariat with the Arad National Environmental and Consumer Protection Guard. Checks revealed that the lorry was actually loaded with 23,210 kg of waste for which the driver failed to present the necessary documentation required by law for the importation of such products," ITPF said.
