The designated Prime Minister, Adrian Vestea, emphasized on Monday, in the reunified plenary session of Parliament, the importance of an investiture vote for the Executive, noting that any second without a government represents a "disaster" for the country.
He added that Romania no longer needs scandal, but needs direction.
"We no longer need division - we need unity. We no longer need promises - we need results. Years from now, I hope we can say that this was the moment when we chose to build, not to divide. Because today, our country is in crisis and we cannot afford to keep it blocked for another moment! And if we leave this room without a Government, every second without a Government means disaster for the country," he said.
The designated Prime Minister admitted that the Government is also "the result of a political compromise", but stressed that in a mature democracy, compromise "is not a sign of weakness" but proof of responsibility.
"I did not seek party answers. I did not seek ideological answers. I sought good answers for this country. It was not our differences that brought us together - it was the obligation to build that brought us together. People need stability, predictability, a state that keeps its word. We have a lot of work ahead of us. Not all decisions will be easy, not all reforms will be popular - but I am convinced that we have the resources, the energy and the people necessary to succeed," added the prime minister-designate.
Adrian Vestea expressed his belief that the Romanian state has the duty to develop support programs for maintaining identity in the case of national minorities, with an emphasis on education, culture and religions.
"For minorities living in conditions with a high degree of vulnerability, we undertake concrete programs on health, work, housing and community development," Vestea said.
He stressed that the Government will "firmly" defend Romania's interests in the negotiations regarding the future European budget, noting that our country's place is "at the decision-making table, not in the waiting room".
He also announced that it will continue efforts to join the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development and strengthen the strategic partnership with the United States. At the same time, it will continue efforts to be included in the Visa Waiver Program.
"Our future is firmly anchored in the Euro-Atlantic space. In the field of security, we will continue to consolidate defense capabilities and support projects that strengthen our strategic role in the region, essential for the security of NATO's eastern flank," Vestea stated.
He added that he will work every day so that Romania will once again become the place where those who have left abroad feel that they deserve to return.
"Romania must be home not only through memories, but also through the opportunities it offers to every citizen. I don't want to be the prime minister who promises the most. I want to be the one who leaves behind the most things done," he said.
