Participants in Investor Compensation Fund report almost 246,000 investors as of end-Q1

As of the end of Q1 2025 there were 245,934 investors reported by the participants in the Investor Compensation Fund (FCI), by 8.79% more compared to the end of the previous quarter, the FCI said in a quarterly release on Monday.

As many as 55,343 investors, respectively 22.50%, hold only government securities issued by the Romanian state through the Finance Ministry.

The number of investor eligible for full compensation increased by 7.79% from the previous quarter. The number of investors entitled to limited compensation was 11.19% up, and the number of non-compensable investors increased by 2.14% compared to the previous quarter.

The compensation cap is 20,000 euros.

Investors eligible for full compensation account for 68.34% of the total reported as of March 31, 2025. Of these, 77.75% use financial investment service companies. The category of investors eligible for compensation, with portfolios lower than the 20,000 euro cap makes up the bulk of investors, and was 7.79% up at the end of Q1 2025, to 168,074.

The number of investors entitled to compensation, with portfolios higher than the compensation cap was 76,479, up 11.19% from the previous quarter.

The fewest are in the category of non-compensable investors - 1,381, a number that advanced by 2.14% compared to the previous quarter.

The value of the total portfolio increased by 3.57% from Q4, 2024 to RON 362.1 billion.

The average portfolio of an investor entitled to full compensation reached 4,022.47 euros, up 2.36% from Q4, 2024. The average portfolio of an investor eligible for limited compensation was 3.12% as of the end of Q1, 2025, at 184,341.12 euros, with the increase in the number of investors (11.19%) exceeding the portfolio increase (7.78%).

The average portfolio of a non-compensable investor was 0.31% up, at 41,986,182.39 euros.

The average investment that qualifies for compensation represents the ratio between the amount of compensable investments reported by the Fund participants and their number. At the end of March 2025, the total compensable investment was RON 10.977 billion, and the Fund had 31 participants. Thus, the average investment qualifying for compensation (reported to 31 participants) was RON 354.12 million, by 18.14% higher than the RON 299.74 million recorded in the previous quarter.

The compensable investment registered an increase of 10.98% in Q1 2025 compared to the previous quarter. Of the total portfolio, the compensable investment represents only 3.03%.

The financial resources intended for investor compensation at the end of March 2025 amounted to RON 28.30 million. To an extent of 99.98%, these resources were placed in benchmark government bonds, and 0.02% in amounts available in the account.
