PM Ciolacu: Each energy card gets refilled RON 700 for each beneficiary

The energy cards in circulation have got refilled RON 700 per beneficiary, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said on Thursday.

"The European funds minister also has good news: the energy cards now in circulation - over 1.5 million - have been refilled RON 700 for each beneficiary. And the new cards, in the process of distribution, will get the money after the Romanian Post announces having reached the almost 400,000 beneficiaries," Ciolacu said at the beginning of a government meeting on Thursday.

On September 6, the Post announced that the second stage of the aid programme regarding the payment of energy bills started on September 5.

"The second stage started with the printing and wrapping of over 370,000 new cards by the Stamp Factory, a specialised branch of the Romanian Post National Corporation. The new cards are intended for people who have recently joined the grid, as well as those who have changed their home address. On the other hand, those who retain their status as beneficiaries from the first filling will be able to use the cards for the refilling as well. At the same time, as in the case of the first filling, this time as well the postmen have started collecting the bona fide statements from the beneficiaries of energy cards who have a residence without a street nomenclature, a prevailing situation in the rural environment," according to the Romanian Post.

Both the cards related to the first filling and those related to the refilling can be used until December 27, 2023.

Qualifying for the aid are pensioners on an income below RON 2,000 ; disability pensioners on an income below RON 2,000 lei, including RON 2,000; persons with severe or moderate disabilities on an income below RON 2,000 lei, including RON 2,000; families on support allowance; families/persons on social security.

The average monthly income for each family member shall not exceed RON 2,000.

The services covered by the "Energy Card" programme enables people to pay current or outstanding bills for: electricity, steam in a centralised system, LPG propane gas bottles/cylinders for heating (excluding LPG butane gas bottles/cylinders for household use - cooking), gas, firewood, heavy fuel oil, pellets and other materials for heating only (for example, geothermal water, coal, wood sawdust briquettes).

Those qualifying for the cards will have to produce the following upon paying : a valid energy card delivered by the Romanian Post; and identity document; current or past invoice.
