The future of the cohesion policy stands high on the agenda of the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Premier Viorica Dancila said in Brussels as she addressed the plenary session of the European Committee of the Regions at the seat of the European Parliament.

"The future of the cohesion policy is a priority on our agenda. (...) The European Union further needs a solid cohesion policy as a major investment strategy," the Premier underscored.

The head of the Executive also spoke about the priorities of the Romanian Presidency. At the beginning of her address, she described the European Committee of the Regions as a "bridge connecting" local and regional authorities to the European institutions.

The Premier pointed out that the motto of the Romanian Presidency of the EU Council - "Cohesion, a common European value" references "the importance of returning to the fundamentals of the community building".

Dancila referred to efforts to "bring to the attention of European citizens the European project's benefits in everyday life". "We must prove that the Union still has the capacity to move forward," she said.

The Premier also underscored that the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the EU places focus on subjects such as the EU Strategy for the Danube Region, strengthening workers' mobility and equal opportunities.
