Prime Minister-designate Luca Niculescu is scheduled to hold further consultations on Monday with representatives of parliamentary parties on the formation of the future Government.
Luca Niculescu will meet the leaders of the Save Romania Union (USR) at 12:00, representatives of the Parliamentary Group of National Minorities at 14:00, the leaders of the PACE - Romania First Group at 16:00, and representatives of the United for Romania Parliamentary Group at 17:00, agerpres reports.
The Prime Minister-designate has already met with the leadership of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), the National Liberal Party (PNL) and the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR).
He intends to submit the government programme and the list of Cabinet ministers to Parliament on Thursday.
'I will present a competent Government in which those appointed must have the skills required to hold their respective positions. (...) I have said that I am not someone who comes in to erase the good work done before. We will continue what has been done well and improve what can be improved. Any easing measures, if there are to be any, must be implemented in such a way that they do not undermine the international commitments we have made, which we have undertaken and which are in Romania's best interests,' Luca Niculescu said at the end of talks with the Social Democratic Party.
The Social Democrats told the Prime Minister-designate that they wanted a committed majority and were not interested in government positions.
Liberal leader and interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan told the Prime Minister-designate that the National Liberal Party did not intend to join the Government he would propose alongside the Social Democratic Party, but was willing to give the government 'a vote of investiture.'
Representatives of the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania also announced their intention to vote in favour of a government, even if they would not be part of it.
The decree appointing Luca Niculescu as candidate for the position of Prime Minister was published in the Official Journal of Romania on Tuesday. He has 10 days to present the government programme and the list of proposed ministers to Parliament.
