The Justice law package, the magistrates' accountability act included, will be ready in two weeks, Premier Sorin Grindeanu told Antena 3 private TV broadcaster on Wednesday.

According to the head of the government, the public debate on the bill on the transposition of the Constitutional Court's decisions into the Criminal Code and the Criminal Procedure Code is also over.

"I think the law package will be referred to the government at the meeting next week (...), a positive relevant opinion will be sent to Parliament," Grindeanu said.

The head of the government also explained that he had "a longer discussion" with Justice Minister Tudorel Toader on the Justice laws calendar.

"After last week's government meeting, I had a longer talk with Minister Tudorel Toader, as we attempted to set a calendar for what I consider to be extremely important - but this is not just from my or the government's point of view - but for everyone," Grindeanu said.

Regarding the bill on the transposition of the Constitutional Court's decisions into the Criminal Codes, PM Grindeanu said it was the subject of intense debate with the relevant institutions and that "the opinions of the Supreme Council of Magistrates, the National Anticorruption Directorate, the Directorate for the Investigation of Organised Crime and Terrorism, the Public Prosecution Office and the magistrates' associations have been sought. There has been a public debate, with NGOs included."

The PM also mentioned that back in 2009 the two Codes were amended by the government's assuming responsibility.

"These Codes have shown their limits. (...) The fact that the Constitutional Court issued dozens of decisions that repealed or requested the reformulation of particular articles or paragraphs in these Codes shows that the absence of parliamentary debate was the reason for things not being properly settled. A host of discussions have been initiated, they are not simple, that's what Mr. Minister Tudorel Toader told me, and just like him, I too wish we could come up with these proposals, so as to keep the debates on the envisaged changes transparent," added Grindeanu.

The head of the Executive mentioned that he still trusts the professionalism of the Minister of Justice, and reiterated that each member of his ruling line-up undergoes evaluation.
