The French President's visit to Romania is extremely important for the development of bilateral relations, especially in the economic field, and for strengthening cooperation at European level, Prime Minister Mihai Tudose stated, according to a Government release on Thursday remitted to Agerpres.

The same source said that the head of the Executive on Thursday is to organise a working lunch in honour of French President Emmanuel Macron, who is currently paying a visit to Romania, as part of his regional tour. "The visit of the French President to Romania is extremely important for the development of bilateral relations, especially in the economic field, as well as for strengthening cooperation at European level, in areas of major interest for both parties," underscored Tudose.

According to the release, at the working lunch, the two officials will tackle issues related to cooperation in the economic, energy, research and cultural fields between the two countries. The Prime Minister will present the economic progress made by Romania, the measures taken by the Government in this area and the investment opportunities, in the context in which Romania recorded an economic growth of 5.9 percent in the second quarter of the year, the highest in the EU.

"Romania's accession to the Schengen Area is another topic of interest, considering that our country meets the technical criteria, with the decision, at this point, resting entirely with the political factors, and our country relying on the constant support of our traditional partner, France, in this matter," said the release.

The head of the Executive will also voice the Government's interest in continuing the dialogue in preparation for Romania's Presidency of the Council of the EU, starting from the French expertise in the European affairs area. "The preparations for the Romania-France cultural season, to take place over December 1, 2018 -June 30, 2019, which will mark the Centenary of the creation of modern Romania and offer our country the chance to be better known abroad, will also be among the topics to be approached at the working lunch," showed the release. The Romanian delegation led by Prime Minister Tudose is made up of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Teodor Melescanu, Minister-delegate for European Affairs, Victor Negrescu, Minister of Economy, Mihai Fifor, Romania's Ambassador to France, Luca Niculescu, the rector of the University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine in Bucharest, Sorin Cimpeanu, a member of the Deputies' Chamber and state counselors Florin Vodita, Gabriel Andronache and Felix Rache.

The French delegation led by President Macron is made up of Minister of European Affairs, Nathalie Loiseau, the French Ambassador to Romania, Michele Ramis, Chief of General Staff, Admiral Bernard Rogel, advisers Philippe Etienne, Clement Beaune, Barbara Frugier, Nicolas Jegou, says the release.
