The Government will provide public funds for the construction of a new county hospital in Sibiu, according to Prime Minister Mihai Tudose, according agerpres.ro.
Tudose and national leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Liviu Dragnea paid a short visit to the Sibiu County Emergency Clinical Hospital on Wednesday.
"From Sibiu, we had two requests to invest in the intensive care unit of the county hospital and the Pediatric Hospital (...). According to the information, at least the ICU is located in an old building, and the Paediatrics Ward, also in a building that, no matter how well you may refurbish it, is still an old building, with nosocomial germs that have already penetrated the walls of the building. We came to see what it really is about and to suggest to those who are entitled, starting with Mrs Prefect and the management of the hospitals, that an alternative solution, that is a new hospital where the wards and departments will be gathered in one place, that will be functional and have state-of-the-art equipment and devices, will be a better alternative. Because today's ICU and the Pediatric Hospital, especially the Pediatric Hospital, new medical technology is needed," said Tudose.
About the fact that there is a project in Sibiu for the construction of an emergency hospital that the Ministry of Health has not included in any financing project, as other regional centres were chosen in its palce, Tudose said: "I am talking about a new county hospital, not about a regional hospital in Sibiu, but a new hospital replacing the existing old hospitals."
Asked if the Government will support the funding of a new hospital in Sibiu, Tudose replied: "That's what I'm trying to say. So, the Sibiu hospital is not among the eight regional hospitals, it is a county hospital, practically new, with all the departments gathered in a new, modern place."
He mentioned that funding will be provided from the national budget.
Asked whether or not the project is related to the European summit that is expected to take place in Sibiu in 2019, Tudose said that the project for a new county hospital is related to the need of the people in Sibiu for modern medical services: "It is related to the needs of the people living in Sibiu and the neighbouring areas of Sibiu. This does not mean that if the summit was not be held in Sibiu, people should have had to die quietly in Sibiu," added Tudose.
He assured that new, modern ambulances will come to Sibiu in 2018.
