Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu visited on Friday the giant offshore drilling rig Transocean Barents in the Black Sea and announced that the unit will soon start drilling the 10 gas extraction wells through which Petrom and Romgaz will draw billions of cubic meters of gas annually, guaranteeing Romania's energy independence.
"Today, we visited the giant Transocean Barents drilling rig, which is starting work to put the Black Sea gas to use in order to ensure all the necessary domestic consumption - both for the industry and for the population. The platform will soon start drilling the 10 wells through which Petrom and Romgaz will extract billions of cubic meters of gas annually, securing the country's energy independence. This means that Romanian gas will supply all consumers in the country, and the surplus will be available for export, which has the potential to transform Romania into a European economic force," Marcel Ciolacu said on Friday in a post on the government's Facebook page.
The Neptun Deep offshore gas project is Romania's largest economic project since the December 1989 Revolution, an investment of over four billion euros, but with huge benefits for the Romanian state, worth a total of tens of billions of euros, the prime minister pointed out.
"I convinced myself today that Romanian companies have the necessary skills and resources to carry out complex economic projects, alongside world-class suppliers, using top-notch technologies. This way, we can transform Romanian gas into the fuel necessary for the long-term development of our economy," Ciolacu completed.
