Chairman of the National Liberal Party (PNL) Ludovic Orban said Monday at private TV broadcaster Digi24 with respect to Save Romania Union (USR) - PLUS (party of former prime minister Dacian Ciolos, ed.n.) that anyone who gets involved against the current ruling coalition is a possible partner, with whom liberals do not fight because the opponent is the Social Democratic Party (PSD, major at rule, ed.n.) - the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats (ALDE, minor at rule, ed.n).

"PNL's adversary is the current governing coalition and our struggle is for this toxic government, harmful to Romania, to cease as soon as possible. Any possible partner who is joining us in the battle against the current ruling coalition and can contribute to achieving the goal of putting an end to this government is a possible partner with whom we do not fight, because the opponent is PSD-ALDE," Orban said.
"Of course, I would prefer them to support President Iohannis in this year's presidential elections, because it is clear to anyone who knows how to read polls and who knows the political life in Romania that President Iohannis has, by far, the highest chances of winning the presidential elections. The emergence of another right-wing candidate, will only postpone [the result] for a possible runoff and in some way will create additional problems to President Iohannis. He is clearly today the Romanian leader with the highest credibility in Romania, but especially at European and international level. (...) President Iohannis is the one who has always been the last stronghold in the fight against PSD and who has succeeded in our partnership with us, with the opposition, to block many harmful initiatives for the Romanian economy and society. So, I believe that supporting President Iohannis is normal, natural, and it should be done by other opposition political actors," said Ludovic Orban.
