AGERPRES special correspondent Oana Ghita reports: Romania will invest a lot in defence but not as a simple buyer, President Nicusor Dan stated on Tuesday, in Paris.
"I had a meeting in France with representatives of companies operating in defence and emerging technologies. I told them that Romania will invest a lot in defence, but not as a simple buyer. We want partners who bring production facilities, technology, jobs and export capabilities in our country," the head of state wrote on Facebook.
He added that many French companies already have advanced cooperation and investment plans with Romanian companies.
"France is leader in Europe in the fields of emerging technologies, artificial intelligence, cyberscurity, and its collaboration with Romania already has solid roots. We can only recover the gaps existing in Europe in these strategic sectors through joint investments," underscored the President.
"We want as many state-of-the-art technologies and equipment to be produced in Romania as possible, in which respect our partnership with Thales is essential. This company is already an important investor in our country, with solid collaborations with our defence industry. Romania has talented engineers who can contribute to the development of these technologies, a part of which will directly contribute to the strengthening our national security," said Nicusor Dan.
