European countries are facing "interference in the electoral processes," Romania's President Nicusor Dan said on Monday at a joint conference at the end of the European Arctic Summit in Rovaniemi, Finland.
"The main question is how prepared we are all of us in order to counter the disinformation, because we all used the classical media, in the relationship with politicians with the classical media in society. And we are facing now new technologies, we are facing interference in the electoral processes, there are techniques developed on social networks that we have not been used with and I think it is extremely important that we cooperate in order to react as fast as the things have happened," said Dan.
He called for European unity.
"There were probably in the last year thousands of incidents in all our countries - sabotages, attacks on the critical infrastructure, cyber-attacks, disinformation, not only on the Eastern Flank. (...) Romania knew very well what happened in Romania, but we do not have a common knowledge on all those phenomena against Europe," the president said.
He added that "our response must be being united, sharing our expertise and building the capabilities (...) to better protect our people."
