President Klaus Iohannis and the head of the Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mihai Daraban welcomed on Monday the official delegations participating in the "Three Seas Initiative" Summit.

Among these were: Croatia's President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic, Poland's President Andrzej Duda, Austria's President Alexander van der Bellen, European commissioner Corina Cretu.

The third edition of the "Three Seas Initiative" Summit is taking place September 17-18 in Bucharest, a political platform launched in 2015, whose main objective is to provide political support for a better cooperation and interconnectivity of the economies of the states in the geographic area between the three seas: the Baltic, the Adriatic and the Black Sea - in such areas as the energy, transport, telecommunications or the environment protection, according to the Presidential Administration.

The Three Seas Initiative includes the 12 EU member states located between the Adriatic, the Baltic and Black Seas: Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia as well as other state, European and international partner institutions.

One of the main objectives of the Summit in Bucharest is to accomplish concrete progress aimed at increasing interconnectivity in the region in three main domains: energy, transport and the digital one. In this regard, the representatives of the EU member states together with their guests will discuss concrete ways for the development of connectivity in the region, the increase of the level of convergence, cohesion and European unity, and at the same time, about consolidating transatlantic cooperation.
