President Klaus Iohannis pays official visit to France

Romania's President Klaus Iohannis is paying an official visit to Paris, France, on Monday and Tuesday to attend the inauguration of the Romania-France Cultural Season, which marks ten years since the signing of a strategic partnership statement, and the celebration of the Centennial of Romania's Greater Union of 1918.

On Monday evening, Iohannis is scheduled to meet leaders of the Romanian community in France at the Embassy of Romania in Paris.

On the second day of his official visit to France, Iohannis will meet his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron.

On Tuesday, President Iohannis will attend a concert commemorating the WWI fallen soldiers, at the Invalids' Dome. On the same occasion, a joint stamp bearing the effigy of General Berthelot will be released as part of the Greater Union Centennial events.

The launch of the Romania-France season will take place at the Georges Pompidou Centre, in the presence of President Klaus Iohannis and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron. The two presidents will visit the exhibitions of the artists Ciprian Muresan, Serban Savu and Adrian Ghenie and will deliver speeches.

Later, the two presidents will hold talks at the Elysee Palace focusing on the special nature of the bilateral relationship, deepening the strategic partnership, strengthening economic co-operation and the role of the Romanian community in France. At the same time, views will be exchanged on current EU affairs, including in the context of Romania preparing to assume the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, as well as items on the international and security agenda.

Iohannis will also take part in a lunch to be offered by Macron in his honour and in the signing ceremony of an updated statement on a strategic partnership between Romania and France.

Initially, the Presidential Administration announced that President Klaus Iohannis will pay an official visit to France on Tuesday and Wednesday. Subsequently, the Presidential Administration told AGERPRES that the President has rescheduled his visit to Monday and Tuesday to be able to attend a solemn session of the Romanian Parliament dedicated to the Greater Union Centennial on Wednesday.
