The President of the Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP), Adrian Tutuianu, held a meeting on Wednesday with Simion-Dorin Rusu, TikTok's representative for Romania, Hungary, and the Balkans, during which they discussed measures to strengthen the integrity of electoral processes and combat disinformation in the digital environment.

According to an AEP statement, the discussions focused on cooperation between the AEP and the platform to identify and counter manipulative content, with particular emphasis on obligations set out under European regulations.

The possibility of creating a code of conduct for political communication on digital platforms was also examined, alongside simpler reporting and intervention mechanisms for illegal or manipulative content.

'The online space has become a major channel for information and public debate, and digital platforms play an increasingly important role in how citizens access information about electoral processes. Today's dialogue was essential for developing effective mechanisms to prevent disinformation and to protect the integrity of electoral processes. The Permanent Electoral Authority reaffirms its commitment to maintaining institutional neutrality and ensuring equal treatment for all electoral competitors,' said the AEP President, quoted in the statement.

The Permanent Electoral Authority intends to continue dialogue with online platforms and to develop prevention and information tools, so that the electoral process remains fair and transparent for all participants, the statement added.
