As many as 15 administrative, political and cultural public buildings - including the Government House and the House of Parliament - will be illuminated between November 4 and 10 for the European Fertility Week 2024, the SOS Infertility Association said on Tuesday.

"In the week of November 4-10, European Fertility Week is celebrated, and in Romania, on this occasion, the SOS Infertility Association intensifies its information and awareness actions to fight against infertility - including the architectural lighting of numerous administrative buildings, theatre houses and museums in Bucharest and elsewhere in the country, in the colours of the fight against infertility and the extensive online communication campaign," according to the association.

Thus, in Bucharest, the Government House, the House of Parliament, the Special Telecommunications Tower of the Special Telecommunications Service (STS), the National Opera House in Bucharest, the Grigore Antipa Museum of Natural History, the CEC Bank Palace, the Bucharest National Theatre House, and in Brasov the headquarters of the City Hall, the letters "BRASOV" on Tampa will be lit up.

At the same time, in Cluj-Napoca, the building of the Iuliu Hatieganu Faculty of Medicine will light up, in Iasi - the headquarters of the City Hall and the building of the Grigore T. Popa Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy, in Sibiu - the headquarters of the City Hall.

In Timisoara, the National Opera House and the National Museum of Art will be illuminated.

According to statistics, infertility affects one in six (or, according to more recent statistics, one in five) couples worldwide.

Every year, the number of people who arrive at infertility treatment centres increases by 8-9%.

"In vitro fertilisation is an exceptional medical advance that can help infertile couples have children, but it is not a panacea. In vitro fertilisation cannot overcome the female age factor. (...) In the world, there are over 12 million people conceived through in vitro fertilisation. Currently, every 35 seconds a child conceived through IVF is born," according to SOS Infertility.
