PNL MP Raluca Turcan maintains that the PSD prefers to politically sabotage the wage law bill rather than contribute to correcting a draft it had "stalled for years."

The former Minister of Labor believes that PSD President Sorin Grindeanu is displaying "unimaginable bad faith and a lack of the most basic decency" by attacking the draft—which has been "radically improved compared to the version left behind by the last PSD minister"—especially after the party had three labor ministers who failed to achieve one of the most important reform objectives of the NRRP, Agerpres informs.

Any criticism of the wage law, made in good faith and based on aspects that can be improved, is welcome.

"But for the PSD president—after his party saw three labor ministers fail to meet one of the key reform objectives of the NRRP, thereby jeopardizing hundreds of millions of euros in non-repayable EU funds—to then attack a bill that has been radically improved compared to the version left behind by the last PSD minister (for which one million euros was paid in consultancy fees alone) is to display an unimaginable level of bad faith and a lack of the most basic decency," wrote Raluca Turcan on Facebook.

According to her, "Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan is trying to carry through a reform that Romania has committed to, both before its own citizens and before its European partners."

"Instead of contributing to the improvement of a bill that its own party had stalled for years, the PSD prefers to sabotage it for political gain. I wonder how many well-intentioned people in this country fail to see that the wage law is being improved by those who are fixing what others left unfinished—having been more concerned with chasing votes and maintaining electoral and political comfort than with the reform Romania needed?" the Liberal representative stated.

She further maintained that "Sorin Grindeanu demonstrates his incompetence as a political leader day after day."

"Plan after plan turns out to be nothing but a bluff, and promise after promise ends in failure. So I ask myself: why would he have respect for public sector employees when he showed no respect even for his own party colleagues? He convinced them he had solutions for governance, for Romania, and for the PSD. The result is the same every time: another flop. Just another flop," stated the PNL MP.

On Thursday, interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan stated that the draft law on public sector remuneration has not yet been finalized and is expected to be debated during another extraordinary session in early August, separately from the other bills linked to NRRP milestones that are set to be discussed in Parliament next week. He warned that failure to adopt the bill would result in the loss of 770 million euros from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan and would not lead to savings on wage expenditures.

On Friday, PSD President Sorin Grindeanu stated that the PSD would never vote for a wage law that brings austerity and impoverishes Romanians.

"I am telling Ilie Bolojan that the PSD will never vote for a wage law that brings austerity and impoverishes Romanians—a law that destroys both the healthcare and education systems! I understand that he has taken responsibility for the failure of the current draft, which he did not manage to finalize in time for debate during next week's extraordinary session. We can hold further sessions if necessary, but only for a bill that has been discussed beforehand with all trade union confederations in a genuine social dialogue—not the embarrassingly staged charade we have seen so far," Grindeanu stated.
