The payment of the recalculated pensions will be made starting with October 1, 2018, no matter when the last file is recalculated, Labor Minister Marius Budai said.
"They [pensioners, ed.n.] will receive extra payment since the law came into force on October 1. The law says that this recalculation takes place over a 12-month period, but no matter when the calculations for last file in the country is completed, that pensioner will receive the money from October 1, 2018. Practically, he does not lose any leu.To implement such a law, a software program is needed, which we have to buy. We are under the procurement procedure, we are at the final procedure and we will shortly sign the report of the procedure and the contract. The law clearly states that this recalculation and payment procedure takes place within these 12 months, but, I repeat, the payment is made with the entry into force. Let's say that in February 2019 a pensioner who falls within that law 192 receives his/her pension decision at home with the new amount he/she will be paid as of 1 October 2018. Practically since the law entered into force until the decision is received at home that pensioner will get the difference of money," Marius Budai explained at private TV broadcaster Romania TV.
He stressed that this recalculation will benefit those who have been affected by the inequities created by the many changes to the Pension Law.
"Over time, the pension law (...) kept being amended, altered. Inequalities were created, some pensioners retired earlier with another contribution period, others had a score in the group, others didn't. Those who do not have a score in the labour groups and have retired under special laws fall under law 192. Those people's pensions will be recalculated. It is very important to say that if somehow, from the calculation, some of the pensioners will have a lower amount, no pensioner will lose but will remain in payment with that amount that is the most advantageous for him," the Labor Minister said.
