The Andrei Muresanu Theatre of Sfantu Gheorghe, central Covasna County announces a record participation in the ninth edition of the DbutanT Festival-competition, with 128 actors and 51 shows registered, reads a statement posted on the theater's Facebook page.
In the coming period, the five shows that will enter the final will be selected.
"Facing the impressive number of registrations, (...) the Artistic Council of the Andrei Muresanu Theatre now has the difficult task of making the pre-selection, and then to select the five shows that will remain in the competition for the final stage as soon as possible. The selection process is extremely rigorous, given that all the participating shows stand out for their quality and originality. The results of the pre-selection will be announced on the double, after a careful evaluation of each show," the source says.
This year's edition of the festival is dedicated to debuting actors, and university, master's or doctoral graduates in theater, acting section of the 2022, 2023 and 2024 promotions could enroll in it. One of the conditions for participation was that the nominated actors should not be employed in other theatres.
"This last change was meant to maintain the relevance and fairness of the competition, given that the grand prize of the festival is an employment contract at the Andrei Muresanu Theatre, and the winner should be available immediately," the release also mentions.
The DbutanT Festival will take place in Sfantu Gheorghe between October 13 and 19, and the jury that will designate the big winner will be composed of prominent personalities of the Romanian and international theater, such as Oskaras Korunovas, Maia Morgenstern, Radu Afrim, Aura Corbeanu and Oana Bucur.
"This edition promises to be an exceptional one, not only by the impressive number of participants, but also by the quality of the shows, offering the public a week full of remarkable performances, as well as the opportunity to discover the new talents of the Romanian theatrical world," the organizing team adds.
The festival is organized with the financial support of the Administration of the National Cultural Fund (AFCN) and the Covasna County Council.
