The Rector of the National University of Science and Technology Politehnica Bucharest, Mihnea Costoiu, has received the Order of Academic Palms, in the rank of Officer, from the Government of the French Republic.
"I am honored to receive the Order of the Academic Palms, in the rank of Officer, from the Government of the French Republic, a recognition of my contribution to the development of French culture, which reflects the commitment I have undertaken to the francophonie and international collaboration, as well as to academic excellence and innovation," wrote the rector on his Facebook page.
In his opinion, the distinction is also a recognition of the prestige that Politehnica University of Bucharest enjoys internationally, which is also concretized by its position within the initiative of the European University Alliances, a project initiated by the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron.
Mihnea Costoiu said that the francophonie has always been an important pillar of international cooperation at Politehnica University of Bucharest.
He said that in the more than 150 years since the first course in French was taught in the university, the higher education community has built partnerships with universities, research institutes and companies from all French-speaking countries.
"Dual degree programs, academic mobility, joint research projects and cultural events organized at the university are initiatives through which we strengthen these partnerships. A symbol of this commitment is the House of Francophonie, a space open on our campus for French-speaking students, teachers and researchers, which facilitates academic and scientific collaboration," the rector said.
He thanked the Ambassador of the French Republic to Romania, Nicolas Warnery, the French Government and the French Embassy in Romania, as well as all those who contribute to the promotion of Francophone values in the university and in society.
