Electrified vehicles in Romania witnessed an increase in registrations of 19.5% in March 2025, year-on-year, as all-electric vehicles saw a decrease of 58.8% and a market share of 2.7%, according to data with the General Directorate for Driving Licences and Registrations (DGPCI), processed by the Association of Romania's Motor Vehicle Manufacturers and Importers (APIA).

"March marks the third consecutive catastrophic month for electromobility in Romania, with a market share of electric vehicles of only 2.7%. It is a strong alarm signal: without increasing the green voucher to EUR 8,500 and without a clear phasing of it until 2030, which would offer consumers predictability, Romania risks lagging behind in the European Union in the adoption of electric vehicles. It is essential to act quickly and decisively to change this trend!", according to APIA Chairman Dan Vardie.

New vehicle registrations increased by 3.3% as against March 2024, but decreased by 12.9% on a monthly basis.

Also, in the third month of 2025, 9,850 new vehicles were registered, up 10.4% year-on-year.

In terms of market share, the SUV segment is in first position, with a share of 54.5% (+12.8%), followed by the C-Class with a share of 27.9% (+13.8%) and the B-Class with a share of 11.1% (+21%) all on a year-to-year basis.

By fuel type in March 2025, registrations of full gasoline plus mild hybrid gasoline vehicles increased by 26.5%, year-on-year, to 62.5%. On the other hand, registrations of full diesel plus mild hybrid diesel vehicles saw a decrease of 42.2%, with a share of 11.3% of the total.

On the other hand, electrified vehicles, namely electric vehicles - all electric and plug-in hybrids - as well as full hybrid vehicles held a market share of 25.6% in the third month of 2025, which exceeds the share held by diesel vehicles - mild hybrid diesel included - by 14.3%.

All-electric vehicles held a market share of 2.7% in March 2025, year-on-year, while plug-in hybrid electric vehicles held a market share of 5.1% as against 4.9% in March 2024.

In the first three months of 2025, the top three best-selling all-electric vehicles were: Dacia Spring, with 1,013 units and a decrease of 17.2% year-on-year; Tesla Model 3, with 162 units, and Leapmotor T03 with 132 units.

Among the self-charging hybrid cars, the first place in the top three of the first quarter is held by Dacia Duster, with 915 units. It is followed by Toyota RAV4, with 725 units, and Toyota Corolla, with 694 units.

In the case of light commercial vehicles and minibuses, the statistics show a decrease of 25.7 from March 2024, of which light commercial vehicles without minibuses recorded a decrease of 23.7%.
