President Klaus Iohannis reiterated at the European Council in Brussels, Romania's commitment to participate in PESCO and the advocating by our country of the open, fair access of the national industries, the SME's to the European defence market, a release by the Presidential Administration reads.
The president stressed that the operationalization of the Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO) instrument, which was officially launched on Thursday, should lead to the more efficient development of the military capabilities and the cohesion increase among the member states.
Klaus Iohannis also emphasised the importance of deepening the EU-NATO cooperation by implementing the Warsaw Declaration and by adopting of new measures regarding the increase of the cross-border mobility and combating terrorism.
President Iohannis also backed the enhancement of the EU social dimension, based on the Gothenburg Summit's conclusions, through a joint efforts of the EU member states that will aim at strengthening the economic convergence and the social cohesion at the entire EU level.
As for the talks on education and culture, the Romanian president expressed his support for a more profound cooperation of the EU member states. He said that the measures in these fields must focus on the improvement of the linguistic and digital skills and on easing access to the labour market for all of the EU citizens. From this perspective, Klaus Iohannis said backs the consolidation of the European policies in culture and education, because they contribute to promoting the European identity, the strengthening of the economic convergence and social cohesion at entire Union's level.
Moreover, president Klaus Iohannis stressed the significance of developing the cultural, creative industries for a better capitalization of the special potential in this domain, in particular in the context of the technological, digital evolutions.
Referring to the EU's policy in migration and asylum, president Iohannis reasserted our country's availability to actively contribute to the advancement of the talks with a view to identify acceptable solutions for all of the member states. President Klaus Iohannis emphasised the importance to further cooperation with the external partners, origin countries, transit countries, as a key-element in approaching the deep causes of migration and the identification of long-term solutions.
Klaus Iohannis also underlined as regards the financing of the EU's external actions, that the setting up of a financial tool to halt the illegal migration needs a deep analysis, especially in respect of the negotiations for the Union's multiannual budget.
