Romania aims to expand its production capacities and strengthen the presence of its defence industry on international markets, while the development of cooperation projects with Azerbaijan was discussed in Baku from September 30 to October 2 2026, during the sixth edition of the Azerbaijan International Defence Exhibition - ADEX 2026.
According to a press release from the National Company ROMARM, sent to AGERPRES on Monday, ten Romanian companies attended the exhibition as part of the national pavilion organised by the Defence Industry Employers' Organisation, presenting the capabilities and solutions of Romania's defence industry and exploring opportunities for technological and commercial cooperation on international markets.
The Romanian participation also included a series of meetings with officials and representatives of institutions in Azerbaijan's defence sector. The Romanian delegation was led by Presidential National Security Adviser Marius-Gabriel Lazurca.
During discussions with representatives of Azerbaijan's Ministry of Defence, including Deputy Defence Minister Agil Gurbanov and Major General Farid Alyev, head of the Armament Department, the possibilities for developing cooperation projects were discussed.
The Romanian delegation's agenda also included a meeting with Vugar Mustafayev, Azerbaijan's Minister of Defence Industry, as well as talks with Ali Naghiyev, head of the State Security Service, and other representatives of the Azerbaijani Government and officials from other countries participating in the exhibition.
During the meetings, the presidential adviser emphasised the importance attached to developing international cooperation in the defence industry and supporting Romanian companies on foreign markets. "Romania and Azerbaijan share vital interests in strengthening bilateral relations and regional security," Lazurca said in the press release issued by Romarm.
For his part, Romarm Director General Razvan-Marian Pircalabescu said domestic companies need to strengthen their international presence. "Romanian defence industry companies need to strengthen their international presence and develop new production capacities as quickly as possible," Pircalabescu said following the meetings held in Baku.
According to the source, participation in ADEX 2026 provided an opportunity to strengthen existing relations and identify new opportunities for cooperation with foreign partners. Discussions with representatives of defence institutions and companies also focused on developing joint projects and making use of the capabilities of Romania's defence industry.
ADEX 2026 brought together hundreds of exhibitors and professionals from the military, defence and security sectors, giving participating companies the opportunity to present their products and technologies and identify new opportunities for cooperation.
For Romarm, participation in the Baku exhibition is part of its strategy to strengthen the presence of Romania's defence industry on international markets and develop partnerships that will help expand production capacities and increase the competitiveness of Romanian companies.
