Romania defeats Czech Republic 3-2 in Fed Cup

Romania defeated the Czech Republic 3-2 on Sunday night in Ostrava, after the dramatic victory of Irina Begu / Monica Niculescu against Barbora Krejcikova / Katerina Siniakova, 6 -7 (2), 6-4, 6-4.

Romania have qualified for the semifinals of the competition and will play in the penultimate act versus France.

Begu and Niculescu, recent champions at Hua Hin's doubles, obtained a splendid victory after two hours and 53 minutes against the best pair in the world.

Begu and Niculescu, frenetically supported by a group of Romanian fans, have brought a historical performance.

The other points of the Romanian team were brought by Simona Halep, who defeated on Saturday Katerina Siniakova 6-4, 6-0, and on Sunday defeated Karolina Pliskova 6-4, 5-7, 6-4. Mihaela Buzarnescu was defeated by Pliskova on Saturday 6-1, 6-4, and on Sunday by Siniakova 6-4, 6-2.

The team of Romania's Fed Cup team for the Ostrava meeting was made up of players Simona Halep (WTA's 3rd), Mihaela Buzarnescu (WTA's 29th), Irina Camelia Begu (WTA's), Ana Bogdan (WTA's 105th) and Monica Niculescu (WTA's 106th).

Romania will play the semifinals on 20-21 April, versus France, who defeated Belgium 3-1 in the quarterfinals.
