Romania's Simona Halep on Thursday evening won the women's competition of the Tie Break Tens demo tennis tournament in Madrid.
The tournament featured ten first-to-ten-point tie-break matches, with the top players in each three-man group meeting in the semifinals.
All matches were played, and the champion crowned, in a single session of tennis that takes no more than three hours.
In the final, Halep defeated Russia's Svetlana Kuznetsova 10-6, after beating GB's Johanna Konta in the quarter-finals 10-2, and Olympic champion Monica Puig of Puerto Rico in the semis 10-5.
The men's competition was won by Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, who scored 10-7 in the final against Spain's Feliciano Lopez.
Both won 250,000 US dollars each, agreeing to donate 50,000 of their prize to charity.
The first edition of the Tie Break Tens was held in December 2015 in London, attended by six players competing in two groups. The second edition was held in October 2016 in Vienna, again attended by six players.
