Romania will produce optical components worth one million euros each, in a Center for High Power Optics in Magurele, [near Bucharest], the Minister of Finance, Marcel Bolos, who is also the acting Minister of Development, announced on Tuesday.

"Romania will produce optical components worth one million euros each. It's not a sci-fi scenario. It is the reality we are building together. At Magurele, within the Extreme Light Infrastructure - Nuclear Physics, we are currently bringing the technology of the future. The contract for a Center for High Power Optics, an investment of 193 million lei, was signed today at The Ministry of Development, Public Works and Administration", the minister wrote on his Facebook page.

The center will be equipped with the necessary technology and equipment for the manufacture of high-power optical components that are used at the ELI-NP Research Infrastructure or at other high-power laser centers in Romania and around the world.

Within the Center, mirrors and optical components unique in the world will be produced, inspected and finished, and the uninterrupted operation of the most powerful laser in the world will be ensured, Marcel Bolos also pointed out.

At the same time, innovative technologies and processes will be created that can be applied in other industries.

"The center will be created in collaboration with the Japanese partners, who give us access to the latest generation technology and the expertise of some of the best specialists in the world. Therefore, new opportunities are created for Romanian researchers, engineers and specialists, opening the way to the transfer of knowledge and the development of high-tech industries here, in Romania," the quoted minister emphasized.
