Romania will participate in the 32nd edition of the Beijing International Book Fair (BIBF), one of the world's most prestigious events dedicated to books, copyright and the publishing industry, which will take place from 17 to 21 June.
According to a release the Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR) sent to AGERPRES on Monday, Romania's presence at this landmark event will be marked by an extensive programme of book launches, debates, professional meetings and activities aimed at promoting Romanian literature and culture in the People's Republic of China.
At Romania's national stand (E1.A09), hosted at the China National Convention Center, visitors will be able to explore an exhibition featuring more than 300 volumes recently published by the publishing houses Cartier, Corint, Grafoart, Ideea Europeana, Junimea, Limes, Litera, Polirom, Trei, Vremea, Integral, Tact, Casa Radio and ICR Publishing House. The selection showcases both contemporary Romanian literature and works covering history, art, philosophy, economics and cultural heritage.
Romania's participation in BIBF 2026 brings together authors, translators, publishers and cultural sector professionals, contributing to the strengthening of publishing exchanges and Romanian-Chinese cultural dialogue.
The programme includes two masterclasses led by author and illustrator Diana Tivu, focusing on children's literature and the art of the illustrated book, the launch of the Chinese edition of the volume "Gradini Austere" by Aura Christi (Shandong Education Press, 2026), the presentation of the Chinese translation of Mihai Eminescu's fairy tale "Fat-Frumos din Lacrima" (Liaoning Group, 2025), and the launch of the volume "Cuprins de o Liniste Adanca" by Gao Xing (Ideea Europeana, 2026), translated from Chinese and representing the outcome of literary dialogue between the two cultural spheres.
A particular highlight will be the presentation of a volume dedicated to the cultural heritage of the Cucuteni Culture, one of Europe's oldest civilisations, as well as an event devoted to contemporary literature from the Republic of Moldova, organised with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in the People's Republic of China.
Romania's presence at BIBF 2026 will also be marked by the awarding of the prestigious Special Book Awards of China to Andrei Potlog, director of Ideea Europeana Publishing House. The distinction is the highest honour granted by the Chinese state to international figures who have contributed to promoting Chinese culture and developing translation programmes and publishing exchanges.
The award ceremony will take place on Tuesday at the prestigious Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing, in the presence of prominent representatives of the international publishing and cultural community.
The Beijing International Book Fair is one of the world's leading book fairs, bringing together more than 2,500 exhibitors from numerous countries and regions each year. In 2026, the status of Guest of Honour Country has been granted to the United Arab Emirates. Owing to its scale and its essential role in promoting publications and trading copyright, BIBF serves as a strategic platform for the development of the global publishing industry. The sustained interest shown by the international media confirms the relevance and impact of the event within the contemporary cultural landscape, the ICR underlines.
