Romania, US discuss Black Sea peace, security

Head of Romania's Navy Staff Alexandru Mirsu on Wednesday discussed peace and security in the Black Sea zone with the newly appointed commander of the United States Sixth Fleet Christopher Grady.

''Discussions were conducted along the lines of maritime security projects and concepts going on in the Black Sea zone amidst the latest developments in Ukraine. Also analysed was the stage of cooperation between the two national navies as part of joint participation in defence exercises, as well as the importance of contributing troops toward the preservation of peace and security at NATO's eastern borders,'' the Romanian Navy said Thursday in a press statement.

It adds that the activity so far has highlighted readiness to cooperated with the other NATO state navies to achieve shared objectives, develop trust and interoperability among the Black Sea riparian countries and the implementation of NATO's Immediate Assurance Measures.

The US military delegation handed by Grady was accompanied by US ambassador in Bucharest Hans Klemm.
