Romania wins five more medals at Balkan Games 2025

Romania won five medals on Sunday at the Balkan Athletics Championships for seniors, hosted by the Panthessaliko Stadio in Volos, Greec: three gold, one silver and one bronze.

Romania's total medal tally is now nine: four gold, three silver and two bronze.

A gold medal went to Andrei Rares Toader (men's shot put), Razvan Cristian Grecu (men's triple jump), Alin Alexandru Firfirica (men's discus throw), Alina Rotaru-Kottmann (women's long jump). Silver medals were won by Elena Andreea Talos (women's triple jump), Andrea Miklos (women's 400m) and Bianca Florentina Ghelber (women's hammer throw). Bronze went to Mihai Sorin Dringo (men's 400m) and Ramona Elena Verman (women's long jump).

On Sunday, Rotaru won the women's long jump for a 6.81m jump, followed by the Cypriot Filippa Fotopoulou, 6.65 metres, while Ramona Verman, the recent European Under-23 champion, came in third with 6.63 metres.

Firfirica won the discus for a 63.15m throw.

Grecu won the triple jump for a 16.46m jump.

In the women's hammer throw, Ghelber took second place, with a 70.20m throw, behind Greek Stamatia Alexandra Skarvelis's 71.95m throw.

In the women's 200m race, Romanian Andrea Miklos took fifth place, 23.54.

Compatriot Ana Maria Nesteriuc finished 7th in the women's 100m race (13.45).

Cristian Gabriel Voicu also ranked 7th, in the men's 800m race (1:48.88).

In the men's 200 m race, Mihai Sorin Dringo finished 7th (20.95), and Mario Alexandru Dobrescu, 9th (21.08).

Romania lined up 19 athletes (10 male and 9 female) for Volos.
