The 22nd edition of "Penser l'Europe" international seminar is taking place in the Aula of the Romanian Academy and the Presidium Hall on Thursday and Friday.

The event is organised by the National Foundation for Science and Art, in collaboration with the Romanian Academy, Institut de France / Institute of France (particularly Académie des Sciences Morales et Politiques / Academy of Moral and Political Sciences), Institut français des relations internationales / the French Institute of International Relations, and Real Academia de Ciencias Económicas y Financieras / the Royal Academy of Economic and Financial Sciences of Spain.

The official opening of the seminar will take place on Thursday at 10:00 in the Aula of the Romanian Academy and will be attended by Academician Ioan-Aurel Pop, President of the Romanian Academy; Nicolas Warnery, Ambassador of France to Romania; Professor Thierry de Montbrial, founder and president of the French Institute of International Relations; and Academician Maya Simionescu, President of the National Foundation for Science and Art.

'Continuing the tradition of high-level intellectual dialogue initiated 22 years ago by Academician Eugen Simion, the two-day seminar will bring together prominent figures from the national and international academic world, as well as representatives of the European cultural, scientific and academic communities,' the Romanian Academy informs in a press release sent to AGERPRES on Wednesday.

The 2025 edition's theme - 'Europe: Soft Power and Hard Power in an Era of Global Confrontations' - reflects the growing tensions and profound transformations within the international order, in a world marked by ideological conflicts, geopolitical crises and strategic realignments. Today, Europe is called upon to redefine both its instruments of influence and its means of defence, the organisers highlight.

The event will consist of five sessions, addressing the following topics: Do non-democratic ideologies have a future in Europe? What remains of Enlightenment Europe? Europe today and tomorrow; Europe in the era of global confrontations; and Can the European Union survive without renewing itself?

On Friday at 09:30, in the Presidium Hall of the Romanian Academy, Professor Thierry de Montbrial will engage in a dialogue with Academician Daniel Daianu and will present his latest book, 'L'čre des affrontements' (The Era of Confrontations).

For this 22nd edition of the seminar, interest in participation has been expressed by academics, opinion leaders, researchers, as well as representatives of European institutions.
