Romanian high-diver Constantin Popovici placed second at the Red Bull Diving World Series held on Causeway Coast in Northern Ireland, in the fourth stage of the Red Bull Cliff Diving circuit.
Constantin Popovici was the only athlete to represent Romania, as fellow national Catalin Preda has not yet fully recovered from the injury sustained at the Boston leg of the competition.
For his first two acrobatic leaps, performed directly from the cliffs, Constantin Popovici scored 67.2 points and 82.25 points respectively, and halfway through the competition he was 3rd in the general ranking.
With the third leap, last year's champion moved up one notch, and for the grand finale Popovici performed a 5.7 DD dive (out of a maximum of 6.6) for which he received 131.1 points. With a total of 395.55 points, Popovici landed the silver and is now just one point away from the leader of the competition.
After the victories in Athens and Polignano a Mare, and the second place in Northern Ireland, Constantin Popovici has 58 points in the overall ranking of the Red Bull Cliff Diving circuit and has recovered almost all the points lost in the Boston stage where he finished 11th due to an accident.
"It was a difficult stage, especially because of the weather and the ice-cold water. I did my best under the given circumstances and the most important thing is that I didn't get injured again. I am happy with the second place and I hope to make a full recovery by the next stage, to increase a bit more the difficulty of my dives. I will do everything to defend my title in the next four stages,'' said Constantin Popovici.
