Romanian tennis player Patricia Tig won the women's singles title at the W35 Istanbul ITF tournament in Istanbul, prize money USD 25,000, on Sunday, after defeating Turkish Ayla Aksu in the final 6-3 7-6 (7/4).

Fourth seed Tig, 30, world number 274, prevailed in an hour and 45 minutes over fifth seed Aksu.

Tig took revenge on Aksu, 28, world number 277, as Aksu won after the Romanian's 4-2 retirement in April, in the round of 16 of the W35 Santa Margherita ITF tournament.

On her way to the final, Tig beat Cagla Buyukakcay (Turkey) 7-6 (7/5) 6-4; Slovakian Radka Zelnickova 6-2 7-5, Russian Anastasia Gasanova 6-3 6-3, Belarusian Aliona Falei 6-2, 7-6 (7/4).

This is Tig's sixth ITF title in 2024.
