The National Forestry Administration Romsilva will plant approximately 2.8 million forest seedlings in the autumn afforestation campaign and will regenerate 1,326 hectares of state-owned public forest.
Of these, 814 hectares will be regenerated naturally, while 512 hectares will be regenerated artificially, through afforestation works, according to a statement from the authority released on Wednesday.
The autumn afforestation campaign also includes supplementary planting on 482 hectares and replanting works on another 495 hectares.
"Most of the afforestation sites are located in lowland areas in the south of the country and in the Danube Meadow and Delta. Prior to the autumn afforestation campaign, Romsilva employees carried out mechanised soil preparation and the removal of seedlings from forest nurseries," reads the release.
The state-owned forest regeneration programme for this year, covering both the spring and autumn campaigns, foresees the regeneration of 10,100 hectares, of which 6,515 hectares will be natural regeneration and 3,585 hectares artificially regenerated forest.
"In the spring afforestation campaign, Romsilva regenerated 9,454 hectares, 6,306 hectares naturally and 3,148 hectares artificially, as well as carrying out supplementary planting on 1,861 hectares and replanting on another 517 hectares. For all these works - afforestation, supplementary planting and replanting - Romsilva planted 20.4 million forest seedlings in the spring campaign," the release adds.
Over the last five years, Romsilva has regenerated 71,539 hectares of state-owned public forest, 48,921 hectares naturally and 22,618 hectares artificially, planting over 130 million forest seedlings.
Romsilva manages 3.13 million hectares of state-owned forests and provides forestry services for around one million hectares of forests under other forms of ownership.
All state-owned forests are certified under international forest management systems.
Romsilva also manages 22 national and natural parks, covering a total area of over 850,000 hectares, as well as 12 state stud farms.
