The Gendarmerie in Satu Mare County and its counterpart in the neighbouring region of Ukraine will acquire hybrid patrol and intervention vehicles using European funding, as part of a project aimed at protecting the environment and combating environmental crimes.
The project manager, Gheorghe Vlonga from the Satu Mare County Gendarmerie Inspectorate (IJJ), said on Wednesday at the launch conference of the project, which carries the acronym "GREENROUA ROUA00087," that its purpose is to establish connections and a joint plan for environmental protection.
"The main objective is to improve the operational capacity of the partner structures in order to combat and prevent environmental crimes, as well as to protect biodiversity in the cross-border areas," said Vlonga.
The total budget of the project is 450,000 euros, of which 250,000 euros will go to the Satu Mare structure.
IJJ Satu Mare will purchase two 4x4 vehicles for access to rough terrain, two plug-in hybrid patrol vehicles and thermal imaging cameras.
In addition to equipment, the project will also include activities such as staff training in identifying and documenting environmental offences, the use of modern technologies, as well as the development of a procedure for responding to ecological emergencies.
