Ukraine is celebrating Independence Day on Saturday - a moment of great significance, especially in the context of the brutal and unjust war that continues to threaten their freedom and sovereignty, Senate President and leader of the National Liberal Party (PNL) Nicolae Ciuca said, Agerpres reports.
In a message on his social media page, he brought to mind that, "for more than two years, Ukraine has been heroically resisting, defending not only their independence, but also the democratic and European values that unite us all."
"Romania and the entire West stand by Ukraine, supporting its struggle for freedom and the right to decide its own destiny. In my vision, Romania must be a pillar of stability and balance in Central and Eastern Europe, and supporting Ukraine's struggle and supporting their European path is a guarantee of increasing the security of our country, of every Romanian and of the entire region," Ciuca added.
On this day, the PNL leader also said, "we must remind the world that a just peace can be achieved when the victim of this aggression decides to negotiate and the aggressor takes full responsibility for the atrocities and war crimes he has committed."
"We hope that peace be reached as soon as possible, but on Ukrainian terms, not on the terms of others. Today, our thoughts are with the Ukrainian people, with all the families who have lost loved ones, who live their lives under the constant threat of war or who were forced to leave their country and homes to run from the aggressor. Slava Ukraini!," Ciuca said.
