Robert Cazanciuc (PSD), vice president of the Senate, said on Tuesday that he presented the US congressional delegation present in Bucharest with a map showing Romania's role and place in Europe and that the discussions took place with the strategic map on the table.

He explained, after the meeting at Parliament with the eight members of the US Congress visiting Romania, that from that map it emerges that Europe is based on two "pillars": one in the north - Poland and another in the south - Romania.

"It was a parliamentary component emphasized by our American colleagues, not an executive component. They are in Romania for the first time. I also presented them with a map, which I will give you as well, with the role and place of Romania in Europe, with the two pillars - from the north and from the south. In the middle of Europe there is [one pillar] Romania and the other pillar - Poland. The document helped to open up some topics for each parliamentarian. Everyone had the opportunity to discuss with colleagues from all political parties, with the strategic map on the table", declared Cazanciuc.

The PSD senator stressed that the members of the US Congress "did not come with a specific agenda, they did not come with a specific theme, but simply came, out of the desire of each member, to strengthen the relationship, knowing the good things that Romania has done, especially in the case of the conflict in Ukraine".

"There was no specific theme, we simply discussed everything in Romania and the situation in the United States in general. There was no discussion about 'the election year as a problem'. I could even say that they emphasized several times - both in the plenary discussions and in the private ones - the fact that they have great confidence in democracy in Romania", Cazanciuc pointed out.

He mentioned that he sat at the table next to a member of the US Congress who emphasized to him, several times, "that the entire American delegation wants to give this signal of unconditional support for Romania and that they will authorize parliamentary diplomacy for any form of support that Romania will need and, very importantly, for the Republic of Moldova as well".

A delegation consisting of eight members of the US Congress, Democrats and Republicans, led by Vern Buchanan, met, at the Palace of the Parliament, with Romanian senators and deputies. The US delegation was led by Vern Buchanan and is accompanied by the US Ambassador in Bucharest, Kathleen Kavalec.
