Several cases of African swine fever in wild boars have been confirmed by the authorities in Arad County on hunting grounds in the Barzava and Milova areas. Measures have been taken to limit access to the forests, while hunters have been instructed to collect animals that are vectors for transmitting the virus, such as foxes and jackals.

Marcel Rosu, the Director of the Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Directorate (DSVSA) of Arad, told AGERPRES on Thursday that African swine fever was discovered after hunters submitted wild boar meat samples for analysis to detect the disease or trichinosis.

"The hunting grounds at Barzava and Milova are affected, each with an estimated population of 50 wild boars. Immediate retraining of forestry staff and hunters has been ordered, as well as the collection of wild boars, jackals, and foxes from the affected areas, in accordance with annual quotas, as these species are vectors for transmission," said Marcel Rosu.

The local population has been warned that access to the hunting grounds' forests has been prohibited, and disinfection systems have been set up for the tires of vehicles that are permitted to pass through.

At the same time, a series of preventive measures have been communicated to the population in the nearby localities.

So far, there is no active outbreak of African swine fever in domestic pigs in the county, the last one being closed in August.
