The new cross-border road bridge over the Tisa River, linking Romania and Ukraine near Sighetu Marmatiei, is set to be commissioned in December, according to Gabriel Zetea, president of the Maramures County Council. The announcement was made during a videoconference with Mykola Kalashnyk, head of the Kyiv Regional Administration, and Victor Micula, Romania's ambassador to Ukraine.
"Important news: in December we are completing the bridge across the Tisza, a direct, necessary and symbolic link between our communities. A bridge that will unite people, not just banks. In the times we live in, collaboration is no longer just an administrative procedure. It is humanity, responsibility, the sincere desire to lend a hand where it is needed. Maramures remains close to the Kyiv region. Through people, through deeds and through projects that really matter," said Gabriel Zetea.
He also highlighted the severe challenges faced by the Kyiv region caused by the war he learned about following discussions with the head of the Kyiv Regional Administration in Ukraine.
"The real situation in the Kyiv region: 6 hours a day without electricity, thousands of people displaced, over 30,000 affected facilities, of which 24,000 have already been rebuilt. An effort that speaks volumes about the courage of the people there," Gabriel Zetea stated.
The head of the Maramures County Council made it clear that despite the difficult situation in Ukraine, joint Romanian-Ukrainian projects will continue.
"What we are doing together: we are continuing steps for the Maramures - Kyiv Cooperation Agreement, we are activating the Alliance for the Reconstruction of Ukraine for urgent projects, we are getting involved in supporting the 'Invincibility Points' - critical infrastructure in crises, and we are putting technical teams together for 3-5 joint priority projects," Zetea said.
Since the early 1990s, the Maramures County Administration has fostered good neighborly and cultural relations with the Ivano-Frankivsk Region, where a significant ethnic Romanian community lives, a relationship that enjoys continuous support.
