Romania's Cirstea progresses to China Open women's singles second round

Romanian tennis player Sorana Cirstea on Wednesday advanced to the women's singles second round of the China Open WTA 1,000 tournament in Beijing, China, prize money USD 8,963,700, after defeating American Caroline Dolehide, 6-2 6-3.

Cirstea, 35, world number 64, won in 66 minutes, in her first meet with Dolehide, 27, world number 88.

The Romanian won USD 35,260 and 35 WTA singles points.

In the second round, Cirstea will play Czeck Karolina Muchova, 29, world number 15, who beat her at the end of last month in the second round at the US Open, 7-6 (7/0) 6-7 (3/7). Muchova is leading 6-1 in the head-to-head matchup with Cirstea.

On the singles draw at the China Open there are two more Romanians, Jaqueline Cristian, who will face Jessica Bouzas Maneiro (Spain), and Gabriela Ruse, who will play Slovakian Rebecca Sramkova in the first round.
