Table tennis: Romania clearly defeated the USA in the Mixed Teams World Cup in China

Romania defeated the USA clearly, by 8-0, on Thursday, at the World Table Tennis Mixed Team Cup in Chengdu (China).

The pair Ovidiu Ionescu/Bernadette Szocs won the mixed doubles match against the pair Xiangjing Zhang/Sally Moyland, 3-0 (11-5, 11-7, 12-10), Elizabeta Samara defeated Tiffany Ke, 3-0 (12-10, 11-5, 11-4), in the women's singles, while Eduard Ionescu also won in two sets in the men's singles match he played against Nandan Naresh, 2-0 (13-11, 11-7).

China ranks first in the second round of the competition, with 6 points (24-6), followed by Japan, 6 points (24-7), South Korea, 5 points (20-13), Romania, 5 points (19-11), Hong Kong, 5 points (18-20), France, 3 points (13-24), USA, 3 points (2-24), and Germany, 3 points (9-24).

Romania will play another match on Thursday, against Japan.

Three more matches will follow, on Friday against Hong Kong, and on Saturday against Germany and China.

In last year's edition of the competition, Romania failed to advance from the first phase of the competition.
