Table tennis: Romania wins eight medals in the European U21 Championships in Bratislava

Romania won eight medals at the European Under-21 Table Tennis Championships in Bratislava (Slovakia), two gold, two silver and four bronze.

Eduard Ionescu and Darius Movileanu won the gold in the men's doubles, after defeating the pair Andre Bertelsmeier (Germany)/Tiago Abiodun (Portugal) in the final, 3-1 (11-6, 11-5, 9-11, 11-6).

The other gold medal had previously been won by Darius Movileanu and Elena Zaharia in the mixed doubles.

Iulian Chirita also won silver in the men's singles, on Sunday, after losing the final to French Flavien Coton, 3-4 (18-16, 11-8, 1-11, 3-11, 7-11, 11-6, 9-11). In the semifinals, Chirita defeated Andre Bertelsmeier, 4-2 (11-8, 12-10, 3-11, 9-11, 11-9, 11-7).

The other silver medal was won by Elena Zaharia and Bianca Mei-Rosu in women's doubles, after losing the final to Anna Hursey (Wales)/Mia Griesel (Germany), 0-3 (7-11, 9-11, 4-11).

The bronze medals were won by Ioana Singeorzan and Elena Zaharia in women's singles, after losing the semifinals. Singeorzan lost in the duel to the Welsh Anna Hursey, 0-4 (7-11, 6-11, 7-11, 5-11), and Zaharia lost to the Ukrainian Veronika Matiunin, 3-4 (8-11, 6-11, 11-3, 11-9, 5-11, 11-7, 8-11).

Other bronze medals were previously won by Ioana Singeorzan, in women's doubles, together with the Croatian Hana Arapovic, and by the pair Iulian Chirita/Andrei Istrate, in men's doubles.

At the 2024 U21 European Championships in Skopje, Romania had a record of six medals, one gold, four silver and one bronze.
