Romanian-Kazakh pair Irina Begu/Galina Voskoboeva has qualified for the semifinals of the doubles event of the tennis tournament in Budapest (WTA), equipped with total prizes worth 250,000 US dollars, on Thursday, after defeating the pair Danka Kovinic (Montenegro)/Erin Routliffe (New Zealand), 6-4, 7-5.
The second seeded needed one hour and 26 minutes of playing to win the match.
Begu and her partner won a cheque worth 3,435 US dollars and 110 WTA points for reaching this far in the competition and they are to meet next the pair Fanny Stollar (Hungary)/Heather Watson (UK), third seeded.
On the same day, Begu qualified for the quarterfinals of the single event at the same tournament, after defeating Russian Evghenia Rodina. In the next round, Begu is set to meet Czech Marketa Vondrousova (19 of age, WTA's 81st), seed no. 8, who defeated Russian Ana Blinkova, in three sets, 7-6 (6), 3-6, 6-3, in the previous round.
